Proof package specifications

The technical specifications of the proof package issued by TEL050JP proof storage, one page per version. Each version states its rules precisely enough for a third party to implement a verifier without asking TEL050JP anything. The ideas behind them are explained on the how it works page.

1. Versions

IdentifierStatusFrozen onSuccessorSpecification
tel050jp-communication-proof-v1frozen, current2026-08-30noneread

Each version lives at /proof-storage/spec/<identifier>. The format of proof.json itself (currently tel050jp-communication-proof-package-v1) is defined inside the specification of the protocol version it belongs to.

2. Finding out which version a proof uses

  • The protocol field of proof.json — the version of the hashing, Merkle tree and signature rules (the protocol identifier).
  • The schema field of proof.json — the version of the structure of proof.json itself (the package format identifier).
  • The schema field of communication.json — the version of the communication record manifest. It is the same value as the protocol identifier.

The bundled verify.html only checks proofs whose identifiers match exactly the versions it knows. A proof of an unknown version, or one that tries to pass as an older version, is refused as an unknown format.

3. Revision policy

  • The rules of a published version never change. The same identifier means the same rules, whenever the proof is verified.
  • When a change is needed, a new identifier (for example tel050jp-communication-proof-v2) is defined, a row is added to the table above, and the new specification is published at /proof-storage/spec/<new identifier>.
  • Proofs issued under an older version remain verifiable under that version's rules, and the older specification page stays online.
  • Any change that alters the test vectors at the end of a specification page requires a new version. Values never change within a version.

This page and the specification pages are technical documents. They say nothing about legal effect or about how a proof is weighed as evidence.
